Charlotte, NC - training day 2
Today was our first early morning wake up and I was in charge of waking everyone up. These earlier wake up times will be the norm again pretty soon, but the getting up before everyone and setting up breakfast as the crew chief is gonna take some getting used to.
once we made it to the office, we got to learn more about the safety policies and procedures and then got to sit in on the full office staff meeting which was incredibly cool. Seeing how much goes into the day to day activities of Pi Kappa Phi and The Ability Experience.
After er lunch we took the van to the storage shed and picked up all of the tools for the trip. It was pretty daunting sitting in a shed loaded with so many thousands of dollars worth of tools and deciding what we needed, but in the end we finally had a van full of equipment to take back to the house. We then got to spend the next few hours making the inventory list and labeling tools, and the humid 105 degree weather certainly didn't help.
After a long day of work and some shopping for additional supplies, a few of us had the opportunity to be a part of a candlelight vigil for the recent tragedy in Orlando.
There were over a thousand people in attendance and the atmosphere was incredible. Over the course of the evening the speakers were passionate and the stories were very heartfelt. What really stuck out to me though was just the pure attitude of love. The tone was one of sadness and reverence, but it was never one of anger. the whole time it was only ever a message of love and acceptance. The amount of support and kindness from people I had never met was truly inspiring. The trip hasn't even started yet but I already know this will be a memory I will remember long after this summer.
Tomorrow we stay busy getting everything ready for the team to arrive on Wednesday. We also have a couple guys arriving early so that should keep things nice and interesting.
Until next time,
