July 11 - Des Moines

Today was crazy, frustrating, and exciting. We started the day off with another thunderstorm delay, which meant that there was no way the guys would finish the day. Knowing that you won't be able to finish a ride is never good for moral.

On the way we did get to stop at the birthplace of John Wayne which was super cool. There was a cool statue of him in front of the gift shop, and his original house was super small. In the gift shop they had every movie he had been in on DVD which was neat to see.

Upon arriving at lodging we met up with the Build America team for the day. This was extra exciting because it meant that I got to meet up with my chapter brother, Ryker, who is doing Build America this summer. It was cool to hear his stories, and hear about all the good thing the BAM team is doing.

We had and awesome friendship visit at an adaptive sports facility geared towards children. It was fun having the BAM team join us in the fun!

After programming for the day I went to get milkshakes with the BAM guys, and hung out with Ryker for a bit. It would have been nice to have had more time to hear about his adventure this summer, but I guess that's something to look forward to after the summer!
