June 8 - Sacramento
Today was rough. It was good, but challenging. By the end of the day the temperature had peaked at 109! It's hard to complain about temperatures and being tired when you are not riding a bike all day, but it really was a hard day.
My first crew stop was at the top of the first big hill, so I played the rocky theme song for the cyclists as they approached, they were very happy to see me, and loved the inspirational music. We had a ton of flat tires on bikes today, which slowed us down a lot.
Once we got to Sacramento we had our first official arrival at the capital. It was really cool, but everyone was super hot and wanted to get out of the heat as soon as possible!
We drove to the church we are staying at and took quick ice cold showers before we headed out to our friendship visit for the day.
The friendship visit was awesome! We met everyone, and they were all in a band. They played about 6 songs for us after dinner.
After the performance we got a tour to see all of the art that they had been making at the facility, which was basically an art studio for people with disabilities. I took some pictures see below.
After a tough day, a friendship visit sounded horrible, all I wanted to do was rest. Once we got there we had a ton of fun. It really puts everything in a sort of perspective. Like I've said many time we are making these peoples' year! we can suck it up, and find the energy to have a good time, if not for ourselves, for the people we are serving! It's great how goofy you can be at these visits, we all got up and danced for the band, it was great!
