June 26 - Steamboat Springs

Today started off as a really easy day. The ride was only 50 miles so I was only scheduled to have one crew stop. We had Brice Rodgers and his son Layton riding along and they flew. They started as the second to last pace line and finished second. The ride was easy, which gave us a lot of free time in Steamboat to explore.

We first went to Orange Peel a bicycle shop that is really cool. They had a lot of cool shirts and hats, but I just don't feel like I am far enough from home yet to be buying apparel.

I then found a barber shop and got a much needed hair cut. After the haircut I explored the downtown area and found a place where I could buy some Claritin for my alergies, I cannot tell if it is really helping or not yet.

There had been billboards for this store for the past 150 miles. I had to check it out. They had a ton of cowboy boots and hats.

Upon returning to lodging we were called in for an emergency team meeting. This is were we learned that 6 cyclists on the south route had been struck by a truck. It was especially hard because some of those involved were chapter brothers of those on the North team. The good news is that they are all in stable condition.

We carried on though, and went to our scheduled friendship visit with Horizons. A friendship visit was just what we needed, it reminded us why we are all out here, and helped to lift everyone's spirits.

After the friendship visit We all went to the candy shop were Bruce Rodgers bought everyone an ice cream cone, and a bag of candy. I guess this is a kind of tradition. I can't wait to dig into some of the goodies in my bag tomorrow.
